We should demand respect from the East as well as the West!
Jobbik Movement for a Better Hungary protests against the visit and disrespectful memorial service of the Russian motorcycle club called the Night Wolves.
Jobbik has always urged the Hungarian political elite to abandon the narrow-mindedly exclusive Euro-Atlantic approach characterizing the past two decades, and we have advocated an opening to the states lying in the east, including Russia. We are convinced that our foreign policy should not be dependant upon the shadows of the past, therefore we have always stood for developing friendly relations with eastern countries based on mutual benefits.
However, the foundation of friendship and beneficial relations lies in mutual respect and understanding. Hungary is a sovereign country which cannot allow any western or eastern entities to interfere with its progress, disregard its historical traumas or rewrite its national memory. The cornerstone of Jobbik’s foreign policy is that we must respect the customs and traditions of all countries but we rightfully expect the same kind of respect for Hungary and the Hungarian nation as well.
We hope that the Hungarian government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade led by Fidesz, a party so proud of its anti-Communist stance will now demand respect for Hungary from the east, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szíjjártó will officially protest against the provocative visit of the Russian motorcycle club sporting forbidden Communist authoritarian symbols, and demand a response from the Russian diplomatic mission concerning this event.
