Jobbik: Hungary must join European Public Prosecutor's Office

Jobbik will submit a motion to the Parliament so that Hungary could join the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) because the Orbán government’s corruption poses a risk of losing EU funds, Jobbik claims.

In his press conference held in Budapest on Saturday, Jobbik MP Tibor Bana said Hungary might have to face a significant withdrawal of EU monies as early as next year, while the introduction of the rule of law mechanisms in the following budget cycle may entail the loss of even more and larger EU funds for the country.

In addition to Hungarian small and medium enterprises, the biggest losses would be suffered by education, healthcare and the social sector, the MP noted, adding that joining the European Public Prosecutor’s Office could be the solution for this problem because the EPPO’s jurisdiction would only cover EU funds.

That’s why it’s “utterly hypocritical” on the Hungarian government’s part to make it an issue of national sovereignty, Mr Bana emphasized.
