Jobbik condemns US President’s decision on Jerusalem
Jobbik Movement for a Better Hungary condemns US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the US Embassy there from Tel-Aviv as well.
We are convinced that any unilateral steps concerning Jerusalem, which has a disputed international status, is considered by both the Israeli and the Palestinian side as their capital and has a great significance for three world religions, may lead to unforeseeable damage and risks – as it has been demonstrated by the recent events. By making this decision, President Trump goes against the Arab world and the countries of the Muslim culture as well as the entire civilized world and the western allies of the US since this decision is supported by nobody other than a few fanatical and extremely biassed groups.
We believe this harmful decision poses a security risk even for Israel and the Jewish communities living in the world. After this recognition, the conflict has already flared up recently, claiming the lives of innocent people on both sides.
Jobbik has always maintained that the solution lies in a two-state arrangement along the UN borders, which would guarantee the statehood of both Israel and Palestine while also clearly determining the status of Jerusalem. We hope that the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will proceed with due circumspection this time, instead of Minister Péter Szíjjártó “representing” the matter according to his momentary mood. However, the facts that the Ministry has failed to issue an official position for several days and the Hungarian diplomacy prevented the adoption of a joint EU declaration to condemn the Trump administration’s decision seem to suggest that the subservient diplomacy of the past 27 years lives on.
