Hungary must establish contacts with the Assad government

On Saturday, Jobbik called upon the Hungarian cabinet to re-establish diplomatic contacts with the government of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.

Talking to MTI Hungarian News Agency after his press conference, Jobbik MP Márton Gyöngyösi reminded the public that Hungary's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (presumably under pressure from Western forces), expelled Syria's diplomats from Hungary and closed its Damascus embassy in December 2012, claiming that Hungary did not regard the Assad government as the legitimate leadership of the Syrian nation, contrary to the various rebel organizations.

In the politician's view, the events of the past three years proved that the terrorist organization called Islamic State has risen from the multi-coloured opposition of the Assad government.

So Jobbik demands the Hungarian cabinet to apologize to the Syrian nation, whose majority supports the Assad government, and re-establish diplomatic ties with Bashar al-Assad's administration.

Márton Gyöngyösi pointed out that any potential solution for the migration problem requires a stable Syria and re-established diplomatic connections with the Damascus government. In his view, the Assad regime is the only one who could guarantee Syria's stability while the opposition groups are equivalent with chaos.

Peak of cynicism

Sadly enough, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szíjjártó has endorsed the joint statement of EU foreign ministers which blamed Assad as the party mainly responsible for Syria's destabilization and excluded any cooperation with the legitimate government of Syria. "This statement," added Jobbik's politician, "is made by

those who provided funding and weapons for various Syrian opposition groups to support them against Assad's government,

causing a civil war and chaos with unforeseeable consequences in Syria and the Middle East and eventually giving rise to the infamous ISIS." In the MP's view, this is the peak of cynicism. -
