Jobbik: bring Kertesz to justice for anti-Hungarian slur
Jobbik today formally denounced writer Akos Kertesz at the Prosecutor's Office for incitement against the community, defamation and other offenses.
At a press conference, Adam Mirkoczki Jobbik spokesman regretted that the report today had to be prepared by Jobbik, as in his party's view, the government should already have denounced the troubled writer.
Kertesz, born in 1932, is a keen supporter and campaigner of the Socialists (MSZP) , also a publicist for Hungarian-language, extreme-left US weekly Amerikai Nepszava. He wrote in the August 29 edition that Hungarians were genetically prone not to take responsibility for their actions:
“Hungarians are genetically subservient … They do not feel the slightest remorse for the gravest of historical crimes, they shift their responsibility to others and always put the blame on others … They are unable or unwilling to learn they envy and, if possible, kill those who succeed in life through work, learning and innovation.” - Kertesz wrote.
On Monday, Jobbik MP Gergely Farkas asked the government to start the procedure to withdraw Kertesz’s Kossuth Prize, the highest state sponsored award in Hungary.
Hungarian President Pal Schmitt has since requested the government to examine the possibility of withdrawing state awards from those who had become unworthy. According to a letter the President addressed to Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Wednesday, awardees become unworthy of their recognition if their behaviour “violates the constitutional values of Hungary and of the nation”.
The Jobbik spokesmen added that the Prosecutor's office would hopefully have the same commitment and ambition charging Kertesz with these real offenses as they found a way to act against the otherwise legal and law-abiding Civil Guard Association.
