Jobbik: 8.5 %
Voters in the Ferencvaros district of Budapest made history by voting for Csanad Szegedi Jobbik candidate at the by-election held yesterday. In the prominently left-liberal district of the capital, Jobbik, The Movement For A Better Hungary secured 8.5% of the total votes officially making it the 3rd strongest party in Hungarian politics. At some poll-districts in Ferencvaros Jobbik even made second place at around 15% of the votes.
Gabor Vona, Chairman of the Jobbik party stated that yesterday's result proved Jobbik to be a real political power to count with giving Hungarian voters a real alternative in the current corrupt, tired political scene with the almost 10% result. Many Hungarians will be joyed that the Liberal Party (SZDSZ) scored only at about 5% in the once Liberal stronghold of Budapest. Csanad Szegedi, the candidate at the by-election in Ferencvaros added that if the Liberal Party scored
only 5% in the capital that equals to 0% - no support in the countryside.
As reported by jobbik.com earlier, the preparation for the by-election was rigged with fraud and scandals concerning a number of political parties. Jobbik election delegate for the district, Elod Novak discovered severe fraud attempts with the Voters Recommendation Notes that resulted in the exclusion of a number of candidates for the by-election. Police authorities are still investigating claims of fraud against the Liberal Party SZDSZ. Left-centre party Fidesz, that scored over 50% at the by-election yesterday was also accused of "fraudulently transferring Recommendation Notes to a 3rd party in an attempt to weaken the chances of Jobbik at the by-election".
The left Socialist Party only scored around 23% yesterday. As turnoutof the total voters was less than 50% yesterday, a second round of the by-election will be held in a fortnight in Ferencvaros.
