Can Europe exist without Russia?
Gabor Vona, Chairman of Jobbik, the Movement for A Better Hungary visited Moscow at the end of December. As a former history teacher, Jobbik chairman Vona was invited by Vasilij Padvojszkij, Head of the European Academics of Consolidation of National Traditions in Moscow. The representation by the Jobbik Chairman titled "Can Europe exist without Russia?" met with huge interest in the audience of students, teachers, scientists and a representative of the United Russia Party.
Gabor Vona pointed out that while Russia can exist and prosper without Europe, it would not be possible the other way around as Europe will need Russia to exist. There are genuine reasons and interests from both sides to close the gap between Europe and Russia, he added, ranging from energy resources to
national identity.
"Russia is the part of Europe and we can see how the centre of Europe will move to the East. Hungary can be a key player in this new Europe as we will be in the centre of this new Europe, an important transit and trade state between the West and East of Europe." At the end of the 40 minute presentation Jobbik chairman Gabor Vona answered questions from the audience about Hungary, politics and the Jobbik party in a 2 hour session.
Russia's valuable experience in improving the underdeveloped, poor countryside areas to create a self-efficient local economy would be a great example to follow in the similar areas in Hungary, Vona finished the meeting:
"Jobbik, The Movement For a Better Hungary will have a significant role in Foreign Affairs in the foreseable future and will fully support the improvement of political and economical relations with Russia."
